The making of Disney's Mary Poppins

The making of Disney's Mary Poppins Disney's forthcoming release 'Saving Mr Banks' will depict the studio's own take on the fractured relationship between Walt Disney and author Pamela Lyndon Travers during the lengthy production of 'Mary Poppins'. Whatever the Disney take on the story may be, one thing we know for certain is that 'Mary Poppins' route to film was a far from harmonious one. Depending on who you believe, Disney's obsession with turning 'Mary Poppins' into a movie was either motivated by a promise he made to his own children who were huge fans of the books, or simply down to his keen eye for a good story. Regardless of what spurred him on though, Walt eventually got his way and secured the rights from the story's author P.L. Travers, but only after 14 long years of wooing and cajoling.
