One of the key players in the original 'Avatar' movie was the Parker Selfridge character, who was ably played by the Italian-American actor Giovani Ribisi. It has been pointed out by many observant 'Avatar' buffs that the character played by Ribisi was given a surname which is intrinsically associated with commerce. This was appropriate, as the Selfridge character, in his role as the passive-aggressive head administrator of the RDA on Pandora, was completely driven by shareholder profit on behalf of the corporation that employed him and which he represented. Selfridge memorably described the unobtanium material as 'cheddar', and generally provided a more low-key reminder throughout the movie of the profit-driven motivations which were behind the more obviously aggressive and militaristic behaviour of Stephen Lang's Colonel Quaritch.
