David Cronenberg expresses distaste for Kubrick's The Shining

David Cronenberg expresses distaste for Kubrick's The Shining David Cronenberg has become another voice of dissension against Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Shining,' accusing the late filmmaker of not understanding the horror genre. The 70 year old Canadian director - pioneer of the Body Horror subgenre, and himself responsible for a Stephen King adaptation, 1983's 'The Dead Zone' - made the remarks at a special exhibit at the Toronto International Film Festival in honour of his five-decade career. The subject came up as Kubrick's work will be the subject of a similar TIFF exhibit next year. Quoted by The Star, Cronenberg said, "I think I'm a more intimate and personal filmmaker than Kubrick ever was… That's why I find 'The Shining' not to be a great film.
