As far as iconic characters in the horror genre go, Freddy Krueger usually finds himself among the top ten in almost every list. Such was the brilliance and terrifying nature of the character that it instantly made Robert Englund a household name in horror and consequently saw him don the make-up and represent this nightmare-dwelling monster for years to come. Englund's rise came in 1984 when 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' presented a whole new face of horror, very much a diverse option from your usual slasher films. Its main focus was on psychotic child killer Freddy Krueger, whose burnt face and glove with blades terrorised the youth of Elm Street as he invaded their nightmares and continued to murder innocents.
