Screen Gems are reportedly developing 'Underworld: Next Generation,' a continuation of the action horror franchise which cast Kate Beckinsale as a vampire warrior battling werewolves. However, Bloody Disgusting report that Beckinsale is not at this point thought to be involved in the film, which may instead centre on her character's daughter. Beyond these obvious visual pleasures, 'Underworld' also built an intriguing mythology of a centuries-long war between the vampires and the 'lycans', which reaches a turning point when Selene becomes romantically entangled with Michael (Scott Speedman), a human who is bitten by a lycan. This mythology was embellished in 2006 sequel 'Underworld: Evolution,' and 2009 prequel 'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.'
