Screenwriter/producer Simon Kinberg has discussed how he came to adapt the 'X-Men' Marvel Comics story 'Days of Future Past' for the big screen, and why the well-loved original story arcs keep being used as the basis for the movie series. Many of the X-movies were based at least in part on existing stories from the comics: 2003's 'X2' was inspired by 'God Loves, Man Kills,' and 2006's 'X-Men: The Last Stand' drew on the Dark Phoenix saga. Meanwhile, 2011's 'X-Men: First Class' was modeled on a comparatively recent mini-series of the same name. We're told the planned 2017 movie 'X-Men: Apocalypse' will do likewise.
