Clive Owen has dismissed long-standing rumours that he was in contention for James Bond before Daniel Craig landed the role. Owen tells The Times (via Contact Music), "I was never party to any of it." This news makes a bit of a change, as in recent weeks we've been more used to hearing about actors who were in line for Bond but missed out: Ralph Fiennes, who was passed over in favour of Pierce Brosnan; It is interesting that Owen denies ever having been under consideration for the part at all, for - as most Bond fans who were around at the time can tell you - the smart money was on him taking over from Pierce Brosnan for quite some time.
