Hobbit star Andy Serkis wants avatars like Gollum to win Oscars

Andy Serkis rose to fame as the man behind the computer generated character Gollum in the 'Lord of the Rings' and the 'Hobbit' films and many lauded his performance. Since then he's motion captured for 'King Kong' and 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'. There's no denying that Gollum's appearance in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was the stand-out sequence in the film, and was in most people's minds the saving grace of the first Hobbit movie. A large part of this was Serkis' fantastic performance.
