Is Maleficent too scary to do well in cinemas?

Is Maleficent too scary to do well in cinemas? It's just under two months until Disney unleash their next feature film upon the world in the shape of 'Maleficent', yet some have already resigned the film to failure, according to a Wall Street analyst, anyway. Marci Ryvicker believes that the $130 million budgeted film will force Disney into a write-down -- a process whereby a company overvalues an asset, in this case a movie, and are forced to re-evaluate and reduce its value. In her article she says, "Expectations for a 'Maleficent' write-off seem relatively widespread", which is a bold stance to take before the film has even had any press screenings. Based around the classic story of 'Sleeping Beauty' -- a popular film also by Disney released in 1959 -- there are some who believe the prequel is too frightening for its intended audience.
