Pixar chief talks growing pains under Disney

Pixar chief talks growing pains under Disney As arguably the most consistent animation studio of the last 20 years, you would think that Pixar would be pretty confident in their own abilities. But according to Ed Catmull's new book, 'Creativity Inc.,' there was a period in 2013 when the studio began to feel as if the creative ethos that had served them so well since the release of 'Toy Story' in 1995 should come to an end. Catmull recalls [via Bloomberg] that the studio had come to this conclusion because of the rising cost of producing animated films, as well as the shrinking of the DVD market, which led management to believe that the Pixar culture of allowing employees the freedom to say whatever was on their minds was "faltering." Pixar's president then explained that there had been a lot of soul-searching and growing pains after Disney bought them for $7.4billion in 2006.
