Oldest surviving Batman actor Adam West and original Catwoman actress Julie Newmar have spoken out against the darkness and violence of the more recent big screen takes on DC 's iconic Caped Crusader. Not for the first time, West referred to his interpretation - which ran for three seasons and a spin off movie between 1966 and 1968 - as 'The Bright Knight,' by contrast with the Dark Knight we're now more familiar with. Addressing the audience this past weekend at Phoenix Comicon (quoted by ComicBook.com), Newmar - who appeared in the first two seasons of the show, and arguably remains the best-loved of the 1960s Catwomen - pondered how the events of the past half century paved the way for the darker contemporary version of Batman. And then we had the dark Batman.
