Horror; the populist movie genre that's most attacked for how generic it can be. It's passed off without merit, yet it's the genre that elicits a reaction. Anything that invokes a response like that is deemed lowbrow. Horror can, for lack of a better word, become generic, that can be trope after trope, but all genres can suffer from the same stagnation.
