The film has already got rave reviews from preview screenings with many of the early critiques claiming that it compares to some of the most popular Disney classics, 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'The Lion King'. There have been several attempts to make a Disney adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Snow Queen'. In fact, differing versions of the film have been rumoured to be in and out of development since 1943 when Walt Disney himself expressed a desire to make a movie about the writer's life. Representatives of Disney have frequently alluded to the fact that they have struggled with the characterisation of the Snow Queen and the ability to make her relatable to the audience and, as a result, many attempts to adapt the tale have been shelved.
